Individual Mentorship
Mentorship is a traditional form of Yoga study between teacher and student
A Yoga mentor has extensive personal experience, knowledge and training in both therapeutic and advanced Yoga application. A mentor herself has a trusted mentor guiding her through the reliable process of healing and self-transformation that Yoga provides. There is no Western equivalent to the unique, therapeutic relationship between a Yoga mentor and her student. A mentor is highly committed to guiding her student in recovering health and realizing goals through steady learning and practice. The Elements of a Practice engage the body, breath and mind to influence the entire human system towards balance. The study of authoritative Yoga texts, philosophy and theory are also important aspects of mentorship. Because every student has vastly different needs and goals, a mentor applies the principals of Yoga specifically to her student.
Mentoring Sessions
Yoga begins at the level of healing in a holistic way. Body, breath, mind, perception and emotions are all considered. Lasting change requires time, effort and enthusiasm on behalf of both mentor and student. Committing to weekly sessions, the mentor and student acknowledge the depth of study and the importance of consistency in the process of healing and self-transformation.
Elements of Practice
BODY
Slow, dynamic movements in concert with breath cultivate stability and ease in both the body and mind.
BREATH
Discovering the subtleties of breath allows for a deeper connection with the inner-self
MIND
The journey from movement to stillness is an exploration of the qualities of the mind and the capacity to influence them.
Yoga Therapy
Heal; to make or become healthy or whole again.
Physical injuries, disease and emotional pain are all part of the human condition. Healing is essential to living comfortably in our bodies and is an ongoing process. Each of us has an innate power to heal. As past and future experiences continue to affect our health in undesirable ways, we consider body, breath, mind, personality and emotions. Yoga is holistic, which makes healing possible.
Theory & Philosophy
Authoritative Yoga texts such as the Yogasūtra of Patañjali, the Bhagavad Gītā, Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā and Yoga Yājñavalkya are the doorway to realizing our own human potential. Steady practices guided by these fundamental teachings help us understand what Yoga is and how to skillfully apply it in our daily lives.
